W13: Bring on Winter
Hellooooo everybody! Above is my trusty zone all living on the Island!
Hows everyone doing today??
I had a pretty crazy week. We got a little bit of a late start on the week because we got a severe weather warning from our Zone Leaders and actually weren't really supposed to leave our house on Tuesday. So we weren't able to find many people to talk to.
But a good thing did come out of Tuesday. We were sitting around trying to find a productive way to use time and we got a message from one of our members saying that we should come to his house because one of our recent converts' sons wanted to get baptized like his family did. This was totally out of the blue because we had been asking him if he wanted to get baptized with his family but he didn't want to. His baptism was on Saturday and really cool to watch and see his desire to follow Christ. It was a little crazy running around to get the baptism ready but we were able to get it done.
We were knocking on some doors and a girl that looked like she was between the age of 14-24 came and answered. We asked her if she or anyone wanted to learn about Christ and she said yes and invited us in. We asked if there was another adult male in the house (Because that is one of our rules) she said yes and we met some of her family. Turns out she is 19 but get this... she has a kid!!
She was super nice but it was just a bit strange because we are essentially the same age but she already has a kid. Like when we are teaching her it is like we are teaching someone that is our age but she has this little baby in her arms. They are a super cool family and came to church on Sunday so we are excited to get to know them better and teach them about the gospel.
Spiritual thought
This week I am continuing to read the biography of Gordon B Hinkley. It mentions how many of his grandchildren chose their other grandpa to do a report on and when the other grandpa asked why she didn't chose Gordon she questioned why she would choose that grandpa. She did not realize the extent of what he did for not only the church but for the world. Many of the churches apostles spend several months abroad every year and they are in countless meetings with other church leaders and world leaders trying and striving to do good and help the community. Many do it with no or little pay, just enough to live and many are very very old because you are an apostle until you die.
I say this because a lot of us (including me) don't appreciate all the people that tend to work behind the scenes. There are countless parents, volunteers, relatives, and teachers that go above and beyond and do so much that we are all unaware of. I want to invite all of you on this email list to try and be a little more appreciative of everyone around you and all the little things that people do daily. A little thank you can go a long way.
Peace out and hope you all have a great week. It is Elder Garlick's last week. He will head to Puerto Montt and I will stay in Castro with zone leaders until I get my new companion. He's been a great trainer. I am going to miss him.
Feel free to shoot me an email at scott.mcmillan@missionary.org
Love you all
