W32: Chilean Musician

Pretty much everything went downhill this week right after p-day ended. Literally 30min after pday ended we got a phone call from the 2 people we had on baptismal dates and they said they didn't want to see us again and that they're never going to open the door for us. Came out of nowhere. Just stuff like that. We haven't tried to contact them since. That was a low point of the week for sure.  Also I was able to teach a guy from Canada in English. He said that he had come down to Chile to marry a Chilean woman and then she divorced him. Looks like he's now in a pretty rough spot in his life. He feels like he has a really strong connection with birds. Like he said that birds generally just come and land on his shoulders and hands and stuff. So that was pretty interesting trying to teach him a gospel message. My companion said he got about 50% of what he said since it was in English which is pretty good. I'm on a bus going to Osorno right now. It's an hour away but it's one of the 3 big cities in my mission and I am looking forward to finding some socks to keep my feet dry and new guitar strings and maybe a mate to boost morale. Never thought I would shop to boost moral but drinking mate and buying something helps.  I buy a frozen pizza and eat it every weekend which is a big morale booster as well. Then tonight we're going to stay in Osorno with the Zone leaders.  I've been playing the guitar a lot and now my strings are shot. I think I'm getting better at the guitar but I really don't know.  My Spanish is getting better but I still have days where it kinda lacks. And it's super hard for me to talk about certain subjects... ie: Math. I had to help out one of our friends with her math homework. They asked if I knew how to do it. I was like yeah. They asked me how long ago I learned it. I said like 4-5 years. I learned it freshman year in geometry and it was senior year math so those that struggle with math in the States, realize you are actually probably doing pretty good. So that's also a whole other conversation. But I tried to teach and it just didn't work because I didn't have the math vocabulary. So then I just did some of the problems for her to watch and I think she got it but I don't really know.  I had my first international musician debut this week. One of the members asked me if I could play some piano songs at her daughter's preschool. So they gave me a keyboard and I went and performed for like 30 min. I wanted to teach them the song, but hey didn't really want to learn the song, but it's ok. Maybe preschool doesn't really do sing along music time down here.  So I was versed in the Chilean education system from preschool to High School. At least I get to add to my titles and now get to call myself an international musician after my first preschool gig.  If you had a bad week, go buy something to make you feel better. Even a frozen pizza can do the trick.   - Elder McMillan
