W37: New Area, New Comp, Same Work

So last week I was given 8 hours notice and I had to pack up all my worldly possessions into 2 suitcases and hopped on a bus to my new area! I didn't think I was leaving so the whole packing thing was a little stressful. The transfers where pretty crazy but all went smoothly and I was able to show up in Valdivia and get to work.

I'm serving in a city but our congregation is still super small. But they give the missionaries lunch every day #blessed. So amazing of such a small ward.  I was actually starting to cook some pretty fire food in my other sector but I still prefer receiving food as opposed to making it. It is also the best way to get to know the members.

My new sector is quite different than my other sectors. It's in one of the major city's of my mission and its not way far in the middle of nowhere! There are a bunch of people in the streets, some large buildings, and an actual Walmart even though it is called Lider....same logo, similar store, different name.  Just don't shop in the American section. Super expensive. I wanted ketchup but was not willing to spend $9 on ketchup.  It was quite the experience. Having a store that had almost everything I needed.

As far as a the many people in the street to talk to, we just gotta make sure they are mentally sane before we go up and talk to them. Apparently the sector is infamous for being a drug town. So its a little sketch but I figured my BART experiences and San Francisco at night have prepared me for this. On the bright side I am taller than the vast majority of Chileans so I feel intimidation factor will help me out.

I did get a little sick after cambios. I woke up on Friday with a 100 degree fever, but that ain't going to stop the work of God. So I took 1000mg of Tylonol, took a 1.5 hour nap then went out to work. It was a little rough and when we got back at night I went to bed an hour early and felt way better in the morning.

I've been playing a lot of guitar recently. I'm debating getting a nicer guitar but I'm not so sure about it. I feel like what I have is good enough and a new guitar might be excessive.  If someone with more experience would like to give there input that would be greatly appreciated.

Saw that BYU lost and now I'm convinced that they just wouldn't feel good about going to the Natty if I wasn't there.

Also I'm in the process of breaking in my new shoes. Got some new dress shoes. But the trusty Blundstones are still holding up. Might try some wd-40 to use as like a spray on waterproofing. We will see. Got some grease for my new jump rope today which is nice.

Here is one of my favorite talks I read this week.  If you want a spiritual boost, check it out. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/2010/04/you-are-my-hands?lang=eng

I am trying to be more patient with others realizing most of us are simply doing our best.  Elder Uchtdorf said, "When I think of the Savior, I often picture Him with hands outstretched, reaching out to comfort, heal, bless, and love. And He always talked with, never down to, people. He loved the humble and the meek and walked among them, ministering to them and offering hope and salvation."

Love you all.  Elder McMillan
