W38: Arepas

Pretty crazy week ngl. I mean some of the weeks of the mission were starting to feel like repeats of all the other weeks. Pretty much like groundhog day but it was groundhog week. But this week something unexpected happened every day.  I was able to do 2 intercambios this week. Which means that we switch companions for 24 hours to get to know the other missionaries and how they like to work. I went with Elder Revilla and Elder Rubilar. Elder Revilla is originally from Venezuela but moved to Santiago Chile when he was 11 to escape the crazy of Venezuela. He's a super cool guy and we ended up making arepas for dinner. They are like the staple food item of Venezuela. You make them with a special type of flour and lots of salt. They turned out really good. So while you were eating Turkey all week, I was eating arepas.  Also got to go to his sector which is a little town like an hour away from the city I am in. And I probably got one of the best photos of my mission so far.  Shout out to my dad for sending me a sto-fen omni bounce, my photography is slowly but surely improving. I'm really not that great but the secret is that the camera does most of the work.  What better place to learn than Chile.    And no Chile does not celebrate Thanksgiving and no we did not do anything special. Kinda sad but holidays don't really exist as a missionary. I will probably end up going out and buying myself something for Christmas just so I have something to open on Christmas day. We did get to call our family at night so that was fun.  But other than that it was just a normal day. Everyone here just jumps straight into Christmas.  We have a bunch of homeless people in our sector and one of them came up to us to tell us he's always with Jesus. He then proceeds to lift up his shirt to show us that he has a Jesus tattoo on his chest. It was great. People are interesting here. Elder Benson (my companion) thinks they did a mini-chernobyl experiment here and that's just why the neighborhood is so weird.  And speaking of the dangerous people...we had a stake activity yesterday and the hermanas from another ward sent us a text saying that people were driving around in a car following them as they were walking to the church. So we found them a member that could drive them home so they don't get kidnapped and it all ended up working out fine. All in the day of the life of a missionary in the Mision Chile Puerto Montt!!!  La Mejor misión del mundo.    - Elder McMillan  Pic of my arepa feast with Elder Revilla, summer in Chile and my awesome district.
